Broadening professional Horizons: What Istanbul Taught Me
My Experience at the 20th European Energy Market Conference
As a contributor to the conference, I presented a paper that introduced a tool I developed to support flexibilization of the demand side of the day-ahead electricity market. This tool allows market participants to communicate flexible demand to the clearing mechanism that determines acceptance of orders and the hourly electricity price. By using a simple input mask to model flexibilities, the tool transforms them into bids that can be seamlessly submitted to the market. The opportunity to present my work at such a prestigious event was both thrilling and rewarding, even though this topic is not directly related to my everyday responsibilities at 4brands Reply.

The conference broadly addressed the challenges facing the European Energy Market, and it was inspiring to listen to innovative solutions and trends. The schedule included insightful keynotes and breakout sessions in which the participants presented their work with subsequent discussions. Especially interesting to me were the discussions regarding the switch to a growing part of the energy supplied by renewable energies and the subsequent challenges and solutions, as well as optimization strategies within the energy market.
While the conference content was insightful, the event offered additional opportunities for networking and cultural exploration. One of the highlights was a Bosphorus boat trip combined with a cocktail party, allowing participants to engage in informal discussions while enjoying the views of Istanbul. The gala dinner on the final evening provided another opportunity to connect with peers while indulging in Turkish cuisine. Additionally, taking time to explore the touristic sites of Istanbul enriched the overall experience.
